Operating Principle of Tape-Type Odd Form Insertion Feeders

The operation of a tape-type odd form insertion feeder involves several key components and processes:

  1. Feeder Mechanism: The feeder is equipped with a reel that holds the tape containing the components. The tape is fed into a supply slot through a pressure band device.
  2. Separation of Tape: The upper tape is separated from the base tape by a separating plate. The base tape is secured to a take-up reel, while synchronization holes on the base tape engage with a synchronized ratchet gear.
  3. Component Delivery: The feeder continues to advance the tape until the component reaches the outlet of the feeder. When the insertion head is ready to pick up a component, it activates a mechanical signal via a “feed roller,” which rotates the synchronization wheel by a specified angle, positioning the next component at the feeding location.
  4. Cleaning Functionality: Some advanced odd form insertion feeders incorporate a “cleaning” feature. When the tape compartment is opened, this function can instantaneously clean the components, removing contaminants and enhancing solderability.
  5. Waste Management: The upper tape is retracted and wound back using a belt pulley mechanism, while any waste tape is directed through a waste channel for timely disposal.
